you saved this domain for me nearly 20 years ago, so i might as well use it to talk to you.
here’s what you’ve missed since leaving 3 months ago.
the Artemis II made their trip around the moon. the furthest humans have gone! I’m sure you would have been watching the live streams, and the launch, and the re-entering of the atmosphere if you were still here. there were 4 very cool astronauts on that mission. they named a lunar crater after one of the astronauts’ wife who died of cancer in 2020. E and I agreed, if you were still here, you would’ve been watching the crap out of the entire mission. it would have been the topic of every podcast you listened to. i didn’t cry but i definitely thought about it
you were never a guy that wrote letters, or a very sentimental person. so the only times you really wrote letters specifically to me was when teachers forced you to. i’m sure the prompts you were given were something along the lines of “write something for when your daughter is feeling down”, “write something to make your daughter happy”, “tell your daughter how much you love and appreciate her”. so obviously you never followed the prompts. i don’t think i recognized how much i would cherish your dad-joke letters. and you KNOW i cried after finding those. straight up crying in a storage unit because you said merry christmas. who have i become.
we held your celebration of life last month. i gotta say there was a lot of old people i did not recognize, but they seemed to know who i was, so i guess you knew them too. E and I were accidentally matching with TC tshirts, baggy pants, and brown shoes. your uni friends were there. i think they were the most gutted out of everyone there (minus your family of course). We played killed by death, and death cab by cutie as per your request. your mum made a you quiz, E and I knew all the answers but apparently, we weren’t allowed to win this quiz. and i only cried once fyi.
we went to your brothers afterwards, there was a lot of alcohol involved. and THEN i had to drive the FUCKASS juke to west auckland after 1 drink and 2 hours of sleep. god i hate that car. not only is it ugly but it also takes a lot of petrol for some reason, and the key mechanism is broken. shocking for a 2011 car. make it make sense.
Pavement has suddenly just become a part of your identity. its probably because you bamboozled everyone into thinking “shady lane” was written about you. they came out with a new album but i don’t really think you would enjoy it as much as the stuff from the 90s. i’ve been listening to their top 10 songs on loop, those ones i know.
D performed shady lane at his bands single release party. i think the audience was pretty shocked that the drummer was singing and also guitaring. and the main singer and guitarist was drumming. obviously i cried.
do you know how much paperwork is needed for literally ANYTHING post death????
i agree there needs to be a book of everything you need to know about a foreigner dying in japan. Maybe a blog rather than a book though. and maybe if that goes well we can put books specifically in airports like you mentioned. its not a bad idea. “A Foreigner’s guide to Dying in Japan” i would probably need to get like lawyers involved so that nothing i say accidentally jeopardizes me. and you KNOW how expensive lawyers are.
your house made it through another season, we’re going up soon to see the damage (don’t worry, there is no damage, just a lot of weeds probably). need to take down all the boaaaardsssss. unfortunately think it might be too late to try farming this year. you know how you had some crazy renovation plans? miiight be veto-ing a few of them… I don’t think the upstairs area needs a bathroom, especially of that size. and i want to have a vaulted roof around the living room. surely if we have the pellet stove AND aircon in there it will be pretty warm. i also wanna change your kitchen plans, and also maybe change the location of the wall under the stairs and make the stairs open. we’ll keep the built-in desk, and the daybed, but no guarantees on anything else lol. E and I have a pinterest board going, in case you were interested. i think you’d be too much of a realist if we showed it to you though. let us have our whimsy.
i climbed tokyo tower last weekend. it was pretty hellish seeing as i had no training beforehand. i did it in 7 minutes and 47 seconds. i wonder if you kept your certificate? i think you probably beat me though bc u were like working out n stuff back then. its very corporate vibes now, i feel like it wasn’t that corporate back in 2019
the kankocho auctions started last month. there is some really funny stuff on there, and also some really cheap cars.
someone is auctioning 112 teddy bears for 100,000 yen. all together.
theres also a 7000yen car, with many issues.
i think there was also an old clinic for auction (looked haunted) but could be a great hotel lol.
you could definitely tell that some of the stuff was clearly from people who couldn’t repay their loans, expensive cars, brands, watches. smh
i’m not proof reading this, that’s your job. Take care, see you around.
